School Board MInutes / Expenses

ARBON SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
June 14, 2016

The Arbon School Board met on June 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. members Jason Williams and Jessica Ward were present as were Debbie Curry and clerk, Cheri Evans.

The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jessica to approve the agenda. The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jessica to approve the minutes.  The bills were reviewed.  The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jessica to approve them.  The total M & O expenses for June was $34,757.63. The school received $170.21 from property taxes. $45,949.01 from the State Department, $149.02 from Federal Forest, $1,233.15 from REAP and $67.63 from interest on investments. The school M & O balance is $98,549.99. The Plant Facility received $22.19 from interest the Plant Facility balance is $51,786.26. The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jessica to approve the financial statement.

Robin has an extension on the 2016-2017 school calendar until June 30th.  American Falls has still not finalized theirs. Debbie went over the ISAT test scores.  Our schools 3rd – 6th grade scores are above the state average.  She would like to take some separate field trips from the K-3rd grades that are focused more for her grades.  The board approved.

The Supplemental Levy passed with 40 in favor and 6 against.  The 2016-2017 budget was gone over and approved.

Jessica made contact with parents and the teacher aides on the possibility of changing the kindergarten half days from Tuesday and Thursday to Monday and Friday.  The consensus was to leave it as it is so it will not change.  Jessica is working on the duel enrollment policy and procedures.

The auto dial for phones, teacher, lead teacher, administrative job descriptions and the clerk/business manager/etc. position was tabled for this month.

The annual meeting will be held on July 12, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The motion was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

School Board Minutes and Expenses

ARBON SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

May 10, 2016

The Arbon School Board met on May 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. members Jake Evans, Jason Williams, Jessica Ward, Kade and Shancy Lusk were present as were Debbie Curry, Robin Claunch and clerk, Cheri Evans.

The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jason to approve the agenda. The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jessica to approve the minutes.  The bills were reviewed.  The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jake to approve them.  The total M & O expenses for May was $21,391.67. The school received $911.71 from property taxes. $2,515.50 from the State Department and $64.15 from interest on investments. The school M & O balance is $185,738.60. The Plant Facility received $21.05 from interest the Plant Facility balance is $51,764.07. The motion was moved by Jason and seconded by Jessica to approve the financial statement.

Fire drills are required once a month for schools.  The school calendar for the 2016-2017 school year was gone over.  American Falls has not finalized theirs yet.  As soon as they do Robin will send a copy of ours to the Board and to the State Department so ours is as close to theirs as possible.  The Spring Program is on May 24th at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The Board will do more research on lightening and sound system for the school before they give Ryan a decision on his equipment.

Shancy asked the Board about duel enrollment.  Duel enrollment is a State Law and the Board would make the procedures.  Shancy is willing to get a couple of procedures from others school districts for the Board to look at.  They said that would be fine.  She also asked about changing the half days for kindergarten to Monday and Friday and have Tuesday and Thursday for the full days.  Jessica will contact the others parents and teacher aides that would be effected for the 2016-2017 school year before a decision is made.

Kade asked the Board what maintenance projects they would like completed during the summer break.  Fixing the leak in the basement is their first priority.  The cement stairs on the northwest side of the building will be replaced with new cement stairs or galvanized stairs and railing.  Kade gave the Board a couple of bids, $15,000 – $16,000, he received on replacing the gym flooring to give them an idea on what the cost would be.

Health insurance was discussed and will be left the same as last year.  Next year they will look at some different options.  A work session to work on the 2016-2017 school budget was set for Friday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m.    Jake did not receive word back on information for the auto dial for phones so he will check on another source.  The teacher, lead teacher, administrative job descriptions and the clerk/business manager/etc. position was tabled for this month.

The next meeting and budget hearing will be held June 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The motion was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.

ARBON SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
April 12, 2016

The Arbon School Board met on April 12, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. members Jake Evans and Jessica Ward were present as were Debbie Curry, Ryan Weston and clerk, Cheri Evans.

The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jessica to approve the agenda. The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jessica to approve the minutes. The bills were reviewed. The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jessica to approve them. The total M & O expenses for April was $21,066.90. The school received $855.69 from property taxes and $62.76 from interest on investments. The school M & O balance is $203,641.91. The Plant Facility received $20.59 from interest the Plant Facility balance is $51,743.02. The motion was moved by Jake and seconded by Jessica to approve the financial statement.

Teacher evaluations were reviewed and accepted. Debbie will check on the requirements for fire drills at the school. The board would like the teachers to practice lock-down drills once a trimester. Teacher workdays was brought up. Jake will address this in the teacher job descriptions/duties he is compiling. The teachers would like the stage put up around the end of April. They will try for around the 23rd.

The 2016-2017 budget hearing was set for June 14th at 7:00 p.m. Jake has some phone numbers for the CPR class. Jake has checked on the auto dial for phones and is waiting for a reply. Jake handed out the teacher and administrative job descriptions and duties that he has compiled along with a Lead Teacher description from the Idaho School Board Association. The Board will take these home to go over and have suggestions, changes, etc. for next month’s meeting. The clerk/business manager/etc. position was tabled for this month.

Ryan asked the Board if they would be interested in purchasing his lighting and sound equipment. He is willing to train someone how to set up and operate them. The Board will take it under consideration and get back with him.

The next meeting will be held May 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The motion was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL SUPPLEMENTAL LEVY ELECTION

Arbon Elementary School District No. 383

Power County, Idaho

Public Notice is hereby given according to law, and the requisite action of the Board of Trustees of School District No. 383, Power County Idaho, that a special supplemental levy election will be held on May 17, 2016, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said District their vote and determination on a supplemental tax levy.

The polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Arbon Valley Bible Church

4700 Arbon Valley Highway    Arbon, Idaho

An elector must be a registered voter who has resided in this state and in this school district at least thirty (30) days preceding the election.

The question submitted will be:

QUESTION:

Shall the Board of Trustees of Arbon Elementary School District No. 383, Power County, Idaho, be authorized and empowered to levy a supplemental levy, as permitted by law in Section 33-802(3), Idaho Code for twenty-five thousand dollars $25,000.00) for the first fiscal year beginning July 1, 2016 and twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017 for two years for the purpose of paying all lawful expenses of maintaining and operating the schools of the District for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2018?

The voter may express his/her vote by making an “X” opposite the word on his/her ballot, which expresses his/her choice.

Qualified electors who expect to be absent from the District on May 17, 2016, or who will be unable, because of physical disability or blindness, to go to a polling place, may vote by absentee ballot.  Absentee ballots may be requested from the County Clerk.  The last day for the County Clerk to mail an absentee ballot to voters who requested an absentee ballot is April 1. Those planning on voting absentee will need to obtain and complete an application for absent elector’s ballot that may be brought into the clerk’s office or faxed to 226-7612 by May 17, 2016.  In- person absentee voting closes on Wednesday, May 13.  Electors applying by mail should submit their requests as soon as possible.  The absentee ballot must be received by the clerk no later than 8:00 p.m. on the day of the election.
