CPR Class

Farming is the second most deadly occupation in the United States.  If I am not mistaken, there are 1 or 2 farmers out here in Arbon.

It takes an average of 45 minutes for an ambulance to reach the Arbon Elementary School.  Keep in mind this is from the time the phone call to 911 was made.  We can help reduce the intervention time immensely by having a proper training in CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and First Aid.

.

Fact:For every minute of a person having a heart attach, without CPR and an AED, the chance of survival drops 10%.  After 10 minutes the person is considered clinically dead.   A child or infants heart can stop just from an impact or injury.   Are you willing to risk this statistic with a friend, family, or neighbor out here by not being trained?

Myself and several other people in Arbon, feel it is very important to have CPR and First Aid training.  I have just finished training myself and have received my instructor’s license, allowing me to teach CPR, AED, and First Aid.  Because of liability issues, I must teach according to the American Red Cross standards.  Thus meaning time lines as well, because of what needs to be covered and visually passed off.   Most people do not want multiple classes.  Plus I can reduce the number of hours if we combine everything into a day of class.  For instance;  to just teach CPR (adult only) takes a 3.5 to 4 hours of class alone.  Same for Child, infant, AED, and First aid.  Rather than have 16 hours of class spread over a couple days, we will be doing an 8 hour class and put everything together.  There are 2 days (March 26th, and April 9th) set up for classes already and the same thing will be taught each day.  For those that only want First Aid, they can attend that part only if they would like.  I will get more details to those who sign up.

The classes will begin at 8:00am and end by 5:00 pm.  There will be breaks in between, and time for a lunch also.  Again the dates are March 26th and April 1st.  You only need to sign up for one day and the certificate you receive is good for 2 years.  That’s it!  One day and you are good for 2 years!  The cost for the class is $30.00.  I am not getting paid to teach this class.  I am donating my time for the community.  The cost is only to cover the materials and rental of the equipment.  A training pack and workbook is supplied in the materials.  For an additional $21.50 you can get a “Skills card for CPR, AED, and First Aid.  I would strongly recommend spending the extra cash for these!!!  If you go 6 months with never using the skills, you will only remember 50% of your training.  The skills cards are step-by-step cards to use in emergencies.

Below is a matrix of the options.  If you don’t care which day to take the class, then check both.  You will not go to both, but if I get too many people under one day, then I can move others to balance the amount of people.  There is a limit to how many people  can be in a class, due to the hands on sections, and amount of manikins.  I will let you know which day for sure to attend.  If you cannot attend either day, but would like the class please let me know.

I must have a reply by March 12th so I can reserve equipment.  Plan on the class running from 8am till 5pm.  This does not mean it will last that long if people jump in and accomplish the tasks.  I just don’t want people thinking it will only last a couple hours.  I’d rather plan long and end short!  (Time wise for you smart ones!)  It will be held at the Arbon LDS church.  A carpeted floor will be nice when you are on your knees.  You will be performing “hands on” scenarios, which some will be on the floor.  Dress is casual.

Please do not come if you are sick.  If you have any medical conditions that limit you to sitting, standing, or kneeling please let me know so I can make special preparations.  Generally you will not be on the floor or your knees for more than 5 minutes at a time.  You will be performing compressions  and breaths on manikins.

Everyone from Arbon Valley is welcome!

Payment will be taken the day of the class.  Make checks to Ryan Weston, under memo put Arbon Community Fund.  Reply by March 12th, by phone, e-mail, or mail.

Donations toward purchasing an AED for the Arbon Valley are greatly appreciated!

Thank you and I hope to see you there!
