Idaho Crazy Pancreas 5K

Last summer Eileen Estep’s great grandson, Chris, was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. He was 2½ years old at the time.  Since his diagnosis in July of 2010 he has endured over 2,000 finger picks and 500 insulin injections. In addition to his rigorous blood testing and insulin shots, everything he consumes must be weighed and measured, and his blood levels need to be checked even while he sleeps and plays.
Jenny (Eileen’s granddaughter and Chris’ Mom) along with her husband, Travis, have decided to host their own charity road race to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This is the #1 non-profit funder of diabetes research worldwide. Along with raising money they also want to encourage competition and sportsmanship, but most importantly to have fun! They want to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. They want families to be able to come and participate not only in the 5K, mile walk, and kid run, but also to be able to learn more about Diabetes and the research going on to improve quality of life for those living with it every day. Most of all we want to help the possibility of someday finding a cure.
The race will be held in Inkom, Idaho, on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Stuart Park. For more information and details about the race visit their blog at:  http://www.idahocrazypancreas5k.blogspot.com/
